BREATHE: AN EDITORIAL
By Philip Nutman
Welcome to issue #2 of UP AGAINST THE WALL, the pop cultural
“Weblication” (web publication) review magazine. If this is your first visit,
welcome; if you’re a returning reader, we’re glad to have you back. We’ve had
a terrific response to our first issue despite not having the time to aggressively
promote the site as we’d planned, so the number of hits and feedback have been
doubly gratifying. If you like what you read, please spread the word.
Apologies for the late arrival of the September issue—it’s 9/10 as I write
this and it feels strange to be “publishing” just after the fifth anniversary
of September 11th—but between 9/1 falling on the Labor Day holiday weekend
here in the US, and myself, Chris our designer, and managing editor Anya Martin
all attending Dragon*Con in Atlanta, five days of panels and parties put a
serious dent in our production schedule. Also, we had hoped to have an interview
with Rob Zombie as our celebrity lead for this month, but with Rob in the middle
of an extensive nationwide tour that proved impossible. But thanks to Giovanna
Melchiorre and David Bosch at Koch Records and Rob Dillman of Arcadia Group
Management, we managed to obtain a short interview with Richard Bulter, the
dynamic front man of The Psychedelic Furs, at the last minute. And I do mean
the last minute; we were literally up against the wall on this one, but Richard,
who had been dealing with allergies this past week, kindly did a quick email
interview and came through for us last Friday. Thank you, Richard!
In my first editorial, I intimated that we may make periodic additions to
a given issue during its month of “publication.” This didn’t happen with issue
# 1 due to a variety of reasons, but with this issue appearing late and the
fact we now have a backlog of material, particularly DVD reviews, we will be
running some further material between now and October 1, when we resume our
normal monthly schedule.
October means one thing – Halloween – and my favorite time of the year. Yes,
next month will feature UATW’s first annual Spooktacula Supplement, and we
have plenty of surprises in store for you – but all treats, no tricks.
Thanks for joining us. Brickbats and bouquets can be sent to UATWmag@yahoo.com.
And before I forget, the winner of issue #1’s Panik House DVD competition is
Ken Marvin of Muncie, IN. Congrats Ken and commiserations to all those who
entered but didn’t get lucky.
Later!
